Over the past seven days, Dakota County reported 49 hospitalizations from COVID-19 and 12 deaths from the virus, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
After the spike in hospitalizations and deaths from the virus when the omicron variant hit over the holidays, the county is seeing a slight downward trend this week.

Last week, the county reported 53 hospitalizations from COVID-19 and 14 deaths from the virus.
The state is recovering from its omicron-driven COVID-19 wave, although levels of deaths and hospitalizations still remain high.
MDH also reported 6,448 confirmed cases of the virus this last week in Dakota County.
Data from MDH shows that that new cases and positivity rate peaked in Minnesota around Jan. 10.
